here's my gripe…

early morning musings, but not really a-musing

  • despite wanting to eat as healthy as possible, i just don’t care for most things made of completely whole wheat.
  • this has been a really sucky weekend. both kids are sick and hubby and i haven’t had a date night in two weeks. not that i’m complaining. much.
  • time is ticking away until my mil is here and i still haven’t done the big clean-up and rearrange that i intended. heh.
  • i could finally see the bottom of my kitchen sink saturday. except now it’s full of crap again.
  • this is hardly a news flash, but my dad is irritating. he wanted us to go out to dinner with them yesterday, even though the kids are sick. he didn’t want to come over here, but he was willing to take them out in public and expose them to who knows what so he could go to don pablo’s. he’s also developed some sort of sore on his toe the one he gets gout in every few months, but he won’t go to the doctor. mom thinks he’s going to wait until it’s so bad he has to have his foot amputated. yay for stubbornness and denial!
  • it might just be because i’m tired, but i think i might be coming down with whatever the kids have. double yay! 😐

uninspired

_G103346

i guess the title says it all. i’ve been feeling uninspired, both in my photography and blogging. i feel like i have a desire to say something or do something, but i don’t know what.

i suppose this, too, shall pass. it worries me, though, that i haven’t been taking many photos lately. i feel like i’m losing my edge. i need to find something to get me fired up and out taking photos again.

*sigh*

happy 4th of july

well, another holiday (at least in the u.s.) is almost done and dusted. whew! except they’ll probably be residual stuff over the weekend. i think we might be having a cookout tomorrow. we’ll have to wait and see what the weather is like.

anyway, we went to see fireworks thursday night. back on memorial day there were fireworks and hubby and i watched them from a kroger parking lot. i was really kind of impressed at what a good place it was to watch that i suggested we try there again for the 4th display. heh. well, it turns out that it’s a good place to watch but a totally lousy place to get photos.

we got the tripod set up only for me to realize that there was no way i’d be able to get it set up to miss the chain link fence they have at the side of the parking lot. my tripod is just too short. plus, i didn’t notice the power lines right there by the parking lot. most of the photos you can see the faint line of the lines running right across the picture. oh well.

i decided, since the tripod wasn’t going to work, i would just try to lean against the fence to hopefully steady myself to get some photos. that worked great for the first few photos (which i didn’t use because i decided that my 18-55mm lens didn’t have enough of a zoom), but then other people started lining up by the fence and would shake it every time i pressed on the shutter. man was it annoying.

and if it wasn’t them, it was my own kids that would decide that they needed to either kick the fence or start tugging on my arm to talk to me. i so tried not to get irritated with them because they were just excited. but it was so not going the way i thought it would.

as far as just taking the photos, i think the setting i chose weren’t too bad. although i couldn’t take photos as fast as i was hoping to. obviously they would have turned out better if i’d taken them with a tripod, but i guess these are ok.

next year i’m going to try to find a better vantage point to take photos. one where i’ll be up a bit higher and won’t have a bunch of crap in the way. hopefully. we’ll wait and see.

believe it or not, there are almost four pages of fireworks on my flickr page if you want to go take a look. and if my battery hadn’t died there’d be even more. i think it died about 10 minutes before the finale. like i said, next year i’m going to try to be better prepared.
