here's my gripe…

harrumph!

i declare today international grumpy day. and because i helped create this celebration, it can be any day i feel like making it.

what? you don’t know what i’m talking about? why haven’t you people been reading up on my old blogs? geesh! do i have to do everything? fine! just for all you lazy-asses, here’s a repost:

In 1997, a campaign of civil disobedience reached its peak. Across the world, library books were not being returned early. In shopping centres, doors were not being held open for young mothers with babes in pushchairs; seats were not given up on public transport and the sale of trilby hats had hit a new low.

What began as a low level campaign in an outpost in New Zealand’s South Island had spread around the world like a nasty rash at an orgy.

The UN met in emergency session while outside, men of a certain age organised the most unusual protest. There were no banners as they were too much effort. The sit down protest produced a fantastic array of shooting sticks and garden furniture.

All of this in response to the call that while every group on the planet had there own special day – some how Grumpy Old Men had been overlooked.

Originally, then, July 19th would have been classified as International Grumpy Old Men Day.

Sadly, a motion from Peru, a government known to be infiltrated by militant feminists, caused it to be changed to International Grumpy Old People Day. Then, France, with all of their politicians in danger of being classified as ancient monuments, felt that the ageism would reflect badly on their country.

So it came to be that today, July 19th became classified as International Grumpy Day.

Altogether now – “HURRUMPH!!”

***i can obviously not take all the credit for this posting. this brilliant history of international grumpy day was provided most graciously by simon. thank you! it far outshines the crappy graphic that i came up with.
