>my good friend john posted a little literary quiz the other week, and in so doing, recommended a book[1] to me after i’d mentioned that i’d never read it. (bad, bad english lit major!) since he is such a good friend, he recommended it so highly, and i trust his taste, i went out last week and bought a copy of the book.
at least i thought i had.
you see, when i was looking through the row of books, i noticed that there were three or four different covers for the same book. and they were all priced differently. i figured, why not get the cheapest of them and save a little money? seemed like a grand idea to me, so i looked at each one until i found one that cost $6.95. great! didn’t think any more about it and it sat in the bag for a week.
so, i decide that i finally feel like reading and i’m going to start with this book because, well, it’s a thin book. i go over and get the book out and turn it over so i can read the synopsis thingy on the back that most books have.
hmmm, what’s this? “barron’s literature made easy” what? i turn the book over and look at the front cover, much more carefully this time. “barron’s literature made easy: the themes * the characters * the language and style * the plot analyzed”
frigging great! i bought a cliff notes style book instead of the real thing! for frigging high school students! argh!
so, instead, i will be trying to get back into reading by picking up where i left off on a 1006 page novel[2]. i stopped somewhere on page 12.
heh.
